Penang Career Assistance and Training Centre

I was at Chief Minister’s launching of the Penang Career Assistance and Training Centre (C.A.T. Centre) yesterday afternoon.
This is part of the State Government’s initiative to help Penangites weather the economic challenges this year (and the next?). The Centre’s primary focus is to coordinate job matching and re-training opportunities for jobs in Penang, ranging from operators and technicians to engineers in the manufacturing and service industry. So far, there are more than 2400 jobs registered at the Centre’s database.
After about a month in operation since the end of Jan 09, the Centre which is managed by InvestPenang has about 350 individuals registered to look for job opportunities. Out of this number almost 90% that is 311 persons have been matched with jobs.
I am very encouraged that CM is walking his talk about pro-growth, pro jobs and pro poor economic policies. This is indeed a “first” in Penang and showed if anything, the Pakatan State Government is a people-oriented Government with a soul.
Let’s brave the storm of the economic challenge together!
