Malam Belia di KOMTAR
The Malam Belia di KOMTAR on 21st of June 08 was in my humble opinion modestly successful.
We managed to get some crowd built up to the middle of the show which began at 8pm and lasted till 10pm. Since this is the “first show” and we have said that we’ll start small, I think it was wonderful.
My boss has since committed that we’ll do it EVERY SATURDAY NIGHT starting in July. Gulp…but I’m ready to get down to work.
After surveying the place for a while now, I believe it is a very strategic place for us to convert into a mini bazaar alive with arts, cultural, music and sporting activities. I spoke to one of the sketch artist who was there, he said that there were no avenue for artists like himself. I told him it’s gonna change now.
I would like to make the KOMTAR pedesterian area a space for youth (and the youth-at-heart) to express themselves in arts, culture, music and sports. It is a democratic space for creativity and innovation. It is a space for us to be educated and to educate, to converse and to listen to the voice of our community and our shared experience.
Beginning from KOMTAR…and then the whole of Penang. Democratic space, I heard that from Kit Siang when I was a student in UM listening to his debate with Nazri on ISA. Democratic space…the sound of it…ah. God give me strength.
All read to go
Daytime KOMTAR, from Pedestrian Mall, Jln Lim Chwee Leong
Night-time KOMTAR
One of my favourite-est band, New Groove (I think that’s the name, or was it Urban Groove). The middle lead-singer is an architect. Damn cool and good music.
Da Youth, our focus group…hanging out with great urban and modern music with classic pre-war houses in the backgroup. Ma ma mia…
